MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED! USA TODAY 344 Billion Strong, Opps, I Mean Wrong! A USA Today article states that if Americans continue to pack on pounds, obesity will cost the USA about $344 billion in medical-related expenses by 2018, eating up about 21% of health-care spending, says the first analysis to estimate the future medical costs of excess weight. These calculations are based on the projection that by then 43% of American adults may be obese, which is roughly 30 or more pounds over a healthy weight. So if obesity continues to rise at the current rate know that it will cost you more than you imagined. Here’s why. Extra weight increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and many types of cancer, which can be prevented. How so?  It starts with you doing this. You must right the wrong by getting your weight and health in check. Note: I have a number of blogs here that will help. I am so excited about presenting this story to you. I’m sure you’ll find it enriching, loaded with knowledge, and inspiring. 

                         Tipped The Scales

Here it is. Carla Flagg is a 38 year old African American female Architect with a passion for dance, and a zest for life. But her long tiring work regime, and the fact that she put everyone else’s needs before her own, placed her health and physical fitness needs on a downward spiral. Then one day she realized she had lost her groove. It’s hard to believe this attractive, smart, articulate, and graceful female once tipped the scale at 300lbs. In fact she recalls being successful in all her endeavors except for one, “keeping her weight under control.”  You see, Carla like so many others have spent countless years yo-yoing going up and down the scale; just simply spinning out of control.

                        Take Back Control

Until one day she realized and then said, “I cannot continue living my life this way.”  “I need help; it’s time for a change.”  And change it was. She is now “Taking Center Stage” by getting back the control over her life. Plus she this time is no longer exclusively reconstructing fabulous buildings just for others all over the place. However, now she is ready and committed to rolling out the blue print for her own new look and life.

 Here’s another thing. Little did she know that one day her wish, “Child, I need help”, would be her command. Then suddenly opportunity came knocking, and it presented its self in ways that she could have never imagined. That’s when she met me Joey L. Dowdy creator of Joey’s World Dance Groove/Fitness/Entertainment™ and then joined my Groove Fitness Program.

MAKE IT A FEAT.

Here’s how you can keep the burgers and fries off your thighs. You can do this by turning a potentially unhealthy feat into a pleasant and healthy treat. Here’s how! What you need to know, and do, when you’re eating out is how to act on your options.

You can still enjoy a good meal minus all the extra calories, sodium, sugar and fat. Especially if you’re trying to lose weight, or just maintain your great shape.

So listed below are your options for a large burger, large fries and large soda.

*Down Size Your Portions.

But first, before I share them with you, I think the first thing you should do is down size all three items. Go for smaller versions. Why? It’s all about portion control. You really don’t need to have the large version of these items in order to fill up your tank. Plus, you can make better and more valuable choices using healthier options. Remember: when you eat out don’t be afraid to resort to doing this.

*Execute the Golden Rule.

When eating out don’t be afraid to ask for healthier options, or for your food to be prepared differently. Don’t forget you’re paying for it anyway, plus, you might encourage the restaurant to start a new thing.

Be A Trend Setter!”

Now here are my BFS options.

Burger (Try It Protein Style)

Here’s what so many people are unaware of and most places don’t advertise but there is a lower calorie, fat, sodium burger option. It’s called a protein burger. What is it? It is grilled burger meat (ask for it with no or slightly salted) without the bun wrapped in lettuce, tomato, onions, or whatever other veggies (spinach, sprouts, avocado etc) you’d like. Please feel free to pile them on. Note: Including more veggies will give you the fiber you need, and it’ll make you feel fuller.

Next, try adding mustard and possibly a dash of ketchup for favor instead mayo or the restaurants high fat sauce version. Doing all these things will help you to save big on Calories, Sodium, and Fat.

*Fries (Go Baked or Grilled)

Go for the baked version if possible, or a baked potato (don’t forget most places grill, or cook their burgers so why not ask them to do the same with your fries. Don’t forget they usually have microwaves too, and a baked potato only takes about five to eight minutes.

*Soda (Make a Different Choice)

Sorry, I hate to bring you the bad news, but soda simply isn’t good for you at all. Yes, that means diet soda too. Why is it? For one, it has no nutritional value, and two, I’m sure you’ve heard; it turns into fat. So if you’re trying to trim down your waistline, and who isn’t, you should by pass it.

*Get Your Fizz On!

A better option is water. No, it doesn’t have to be boring. What you should do is try it different ways like flavored, sparkling, or mineral. Just make sure neither contains any form of sugar. Sure, they won’t taste as sweet as soda. But they’ll still provide (especially sparkling or mineral water) that fizzy and or refreshing taste just the same. The difference is minus all the calories and the sugar. If by chance the restaurant doesn’t have either then just drink plain water, and garnish it with strips of lemon, lime, or orange slices.

Now, That You Know Your Options.

OH MY!”

Can’t lose those extra pounds? Well, this could be one reason why.

Did you know that research studies show that fifty percent of the American population consumes a meal that consists of a large burger, large fries and a large soda at least once a week?  So, what about you? Are you doing it too and probably thinking, okay, what’s wrong with once a week? Well, let’s do the math.

Check This Out!

  Here are the stats on how many calories, sodium, fat and sugar content you consume eating just one large burger, fries & soda.

 1,360 calories (Two thirds of a standard day’s allotment of 2,000 calories)

Sodium 1,380 milligrams (almost an entire day’s allotment which is, 2000 milligram)

Fat content 38 percent of calories (60-65 grams day’s allotment)

<Sugar content for all three>
 95 grams, or 19 teaspoons, or 390 calories which is more than double what the American heart association recommends for one day. WOW! These figures are just for once a week, double them for twice a week; triple them for three times a week.  

SO, I ask again, could this be one reason why you can’t lose those extra pounds?  It could be very likely.

What can you do about? How can you keep the burgers, soda, and fries, off your thighs?

A recent article in USA Magazine printed some startling statistics. It said that by the year 2030 half, yes half, of the American population will be OBESE. Here’s another big shocker. It says these numbers will encompass, and affect, nearly every state in America. Wait! I’m not done yet.

Did you know we spend 150 to 200 billion, YES FOLKS BILLIONS, a year on obesity related medical treatments like heart disease, high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes etc? DOESN’T THAT SOUND INSANE?

But I’m sure you didn’t know that either, did you? How ever, now you do. So here’s my question. What are you going to do about it?

It’s apparent that most people equate food and overeating as the real problem, or reason, for Obesity’s epidemic. But is it really? Yet like with every problem there is a cause, and a root that stems deep. So is food or eating too much of it really the problem, or is it something more? What’s Food Got to Do with It?It’s like this.

I would say you’ll discover as you journey with me through this maze that food is not the problem. However, people’s unhealthy choices towards what foods they’re eating and over indulging in it, yeah, that’s a problem. But I would say no to food itself being the sole perpetrator. In fact, we need food for our survival. It’s no doubt that good nutritious food is what fuels our brain, body, and soul. It’s a good thing. Food serves a purpose; that purpose is to use it strictly as a nutritional source to fulfill our hunger needs and nothing more. It shouldn’t be about Living to Eat, but rather Eating to Live.”Yet that’s not what’s been happening, something different has.What is it?

The problem is that people have been using food the incorrect way, and are restoring to it for the wrong reasons. Therefore this misrepresentation of its proper use along with a few influences by unhealthy predators, or contributors, has become a major link to obesity’s outburst. What do I mean? How so, might you ask? Okay, here’s the dirt. As well as where it gets interesting.

Here’s the deal. The unhealthy influences I’ve been talking about are two that are known all too well. Who or rather, what are they? They are fast food and junk food, or better known as, “comfort foods“. This is where they take the stage. In fact, they’ve began to dominate many people’s lives which relates to another reason for this outbreak. Yet it’s also why these foods have become, for millions, a reliable source. A source that’s being used not just for eating sake, but also as a vice that many are gravitating to more for convenience and comfort.

Here’s how. Many people say that they resort to eating comfort foods because it provides for them away toescape, it’s a safe haven. It’s like an addictive drug that temporarily helps them relieve their pain, problems, and or frustrations. Some even say its equivalent to having a comforting friend, lover, or spouse whose aid and ease helps them get through rough times. Therefore it makes them want to eat more, and more, and more! As well as its soothing comforts indeed makes them feel happier. Or so they think? More Soon!
